Definition

Under direction, to perform difficult tasks in the preparation and maintenance of exhibit and judging records; to assist in development of publicity material and the preparation of reports; to assist in organizing and arranging specialized exhibits; and to do other related work.

Typical Tasks

Prepares and maintains records of a large show in a fair, such as the pigeon, art, poultry, or industrial art exhibits, and assists in the arrangement and display of specialized exhibits; keeps judging sheets; assists in maintaining personnel and time records; supervises other assistants in preparation of records for smaller divisions of the fair; prepares reports on judging and distribution of premiums; assists in the compiling of premium catalogues; schedules events; assists exhibitors in maintenance of records; prepares publicity releases and participates in public relations programs.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: Either one or a combination of the following:

 

1. Two years' general clerical experience. (College education may be substituted for experience on the basis of two years of education being equivalent to one year of clerical experience.)

 

or

 

2. Two show periods in a clerical or technical position such as an entry clerk, judge's clerk, exhibit clerk, or publicity assistant in a fair or exposition of national, statewide or regional scope.

 

Education: Equivalent to graduation from the twelfth grade. (Additional qualifying general clerical experience may be substituted for the required education on the basis of one year of general clerical experience or one show period in a position such as an entry clerk, judge's clerk, exhibit clerk or publicity assistant being equal to one year of education.)

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of: Clerical tasks involved in maintaining and preparing entry records, judging sheets, personnel records, and other exhibit records; problems encountered in the operation of an exhibit, and the manner in which events are scheduled; principles of personnel management and supervision; Department's Affirmative Action Program objectives; a manager's role in the affirmative action program and the processes available to meet affirmative action objectives.

 

Ability to: Organize clerical work and keep accurate records; assist in the management and display of exhibits; prepare publicity material for various advertising media; collect, arrange, and assist in compiling of premium catalogues; lay out work of others and get them to work together effectively; prepare reports; effectively contribute to the Department's Affirmative Action objectives.
